Writing in Bed

A creative writing course with Colette Pervette & Karley Slutever

Do you have a story you’re itching to tell?

Are you ready to cozy up to a writing routine?

Would you like to be part of a fun and open-minded writing collective?

Are you craving intimacy on and off the page?

If the answer is a full-body yes

then you should be Writing in Bed!

Writing in Bed is a virtual writing course and community dedicated to expressing your personal and intimate experiences through creative writing

Writing in Bed is a monthlong writing series. Over four Sundays we’ll dive deep into finding and honing your authentic writing voice.

Our goal isn’t necessarily to create the next bestseller (not that we discourage that, duh!), but to explore your personal story—your desires, crises, climaxes and beyond—in a space that encourages play, creative risk-taking and total freedom from judgment!

Writing in Bed is for anyone who has a story to tell, whether you’re a published author, an aspiring memoirist, or you’ve never written more than a TMI Instagram caption.

And guess what?

Everyone has a story!

The goal is to find it and believe it’s worth telling.

Who is this class for?

Why should I join?

This course is about creating a writing practice and deepening your relationship to your work.

Just as importantly, it’s about how the act of processing the intimate parts of yourself and openly sharing your experiences can change your life in so many ways.

Writing helps you combat shame, build more sincere relationships, and create a meaningful connection with your audience.

It’s an incredible way of getting to know yourself. In other words: “write what you ho.”

You’ll also be part of a community of like-minded people to learn from, lol with, and share with throughout your writing journey.

The Writing Journey

Writing in Bed is a monthlong writing series. We will meet every Sunday for 4 weeks. Class is 2 hours long.

We will also host three 60-minute silent writing sessions, aka “Writing In Bed” hours (as encouragement to actually get some f-ing writing done).

All writers are invited to join the Writing in Bed Telegram group—our private virtual community where we connect, share our writing and ideas, ask for support, and just make stupid jokes (obviously).

You are welcome to take the class from your (literal) bed. Up to you! The point is to get comfortable.

Sunday Lessons

Our Sunday lessons are part lecture, part writing workshop, where you will have the opportunity to share your writing and receive thoughtful feedback from other members of our community, as well as from us (Colette & Karley).

Our sessions will cover a range of writing styles and practices, from shorter in-class writing exercises to longer assignments between classes.

The course also features the legendary queer feminist author Michelle Tea as our guest speaker, who will impart a treasure trove of insights and expertise.

Testimonials

Writing in Bed, hosted by Colette and Karley, drew me in with its fun concept and kept me in with its incredible depth and thought-provoking work. The prompts, which seemed simple at first, drew out a level of emotion in my writing that I hadn't seen in a long time. Colette and Karley are amazing guides, practicing what they preach and opening up to us so that we can, in turn, become better writers. I could not recommend this course enough to anyone who is even remotely into writing. It is light enough for the casual writer but has enough meat to entice the seasoned raconteur. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer ;)

~Sara

I loved this class! The weekly assignments helped me get back into the routine of writing and express myself in a way I hadn't before. I learned a lot about writing, while also having fun, getting in touch with myself, and feeling like part of an incredible community.

~Emily

I had just begun writing my book when Colette and Karley launched the Writing in Bed workshop. They held a beautiful container, a safe space to share edgy and personal topics -- which for me often included relationships and sex work. We discussed helpful writing techniques and tips for editing, and received valuable insight into the publishing world. I really enjoyed connecting with other writers, I felt safe to get playful and explore my voice and I received valuable feedback from everyone. This workshop definitely catalyzed my own writing projects and held me accountable. I'm looking forward to Season 2!!

Colette and Karley are both talented writers in their own ways, but it doesn’t just take a talented writer to create a great writing course. It takes the perspective of non-judgmental, open minded individuals who genuinely want to help their “students” learn and grow. Their ability to hold space that makes everyone feel included and a part of something bigger than themselves is what really makes the difference. I know with absolute certainty that each person who took this course gained valuable writing insights, but even more than that, got to know themselves more intimately. I’m very grateful they plan to evolve on this course, and I look forward to the next installment. Writing in Bed was vulnerable, cathartic, and hilarious - which is a very difficult combo to achieve! Thank you for all the VOLs (vulnerable LOLs), and the great memories from this experience.

~Jennifer

I started the WiB workshop as a stifled, self-doubting wannabe writer with a dusty half-read copy of The Artist's Way on my bookshelf and some stories I didn't know how to tell. The homework prompts, weekly writing sessions, tips and tricks from Karley and Collette, and hearing tales from a like-minded community helped me stop staring at a blank screen wondering how to get started - and actually just get started writing!

~Kendra

Karley and Colette offer a safe space to express your authentic self and grow with nurturing support and feedback. It is a perfect class to gain a foundation for a budding writing career or deepen an already established one.

~Rachel

I'm not sure where to start, because the class was a beautiful experience. Karley and Colette were so warm, and really bared their souls to us in a way I didn't expect (so much so that I feel silly for using a nickname in our time together.) Everyone who signed up was truly kind, interesting, and piqued my interest and I wish I could hold all of them more closely so that I can hear more of their stories. I've loved writing for a long time, but always about fictional characters. I make things up instead of looking so closely at me. So many things made me feel like I had lost my voice, and slowly over the years as I've let myself heal and grow, I've found it again. This class reminded me how much I love writing, how precious I hold myself and my voice and my life. Thank you for everything.
